California Department of Pesticide Regulation (DPR) Online Bulletin Update for January 18, 2012

Chief Deputy Director Chris Reardon has released a report on three projects that received Pest Management Alliance Grants in 2009 to encourage applicants to apply for the 2012-2013 cycle. Deadline for applications is February 6, 2012.

Announcements made regarding changes to the department’s management team, effective February 1st.
1. David Duncan, the current chief of Pest Management and Licensing, will become chief of Environmental Monitoring.
2. George Farnsworth, the current acting chief of Worker Health and Safety, will become chief of Enforcement.
3. Nan Gorder, currently the chief of Enforcement, will become chief of Pest Management and Licensing.
4. John Sanders, currently chief of Environmental Monitoring, will become chief of Worker Health and Safety.
5. Sue Edmiston, former chief of Worker Health and Safety, retired in December after 34 years with the Department of Pesticide Regulation (DPR).
6. Veda Federighi has retired and Paul Verke has been hired as Assistant Director, Outreach and Public Management.

The Pesticide Registration and Evaluation Committee (PREC) meeting, originally scheduled for January 20, 2012, has been cancelled. The next meeting is scheduled for Friday, March 16, 2012.

The Pest Management Advisory Committee (PMAC) has scheduled a meeting for Thursday, February 9, 2012 at 10 a.m. The meeting will be Webcast and the agenda will include DPR’s proposed budget increase and updates on DPR’s regulatory efforts.

The Agricultural Pest Control Advisory Committee (APCAC) has scheduled a meeting for Thursday, February 14, 2012 at 9:30 a.m. in Sacramento. The agenda will include an update on DPR’s volatile organic compound regulations.
