STATE PESTICIDE REGISTRATION
2008 COST ESTIMATE
Obtaining state registrations is the key to bringing your federally registered product to market. Before a pesticide product may be offered for sale, each brand name must be registered in each state in which that product it will be sold. The following is a brief overview of the state registration process and typical costs incurred in obtaining registrations for a federally registered product that does not contain a new active ingredient.
- TSG has extensive knowledge of each state’s registration requirements, and has successfully obtained both basic and distributor product registrations for antimicrobial, biochemical, microbial and conventional pesticide products.
- TSG’s staff have sound working relationships with the state pesticide regulators who make the registration decisions.
- TSG’s State Affairs Division prepares, submits and monitors the status of your state applications in order to help you bring your product to market.
TSG State Registration Services. TSG’s State Affairs Division prepares each state application and the related documents, reviews the proposed label for compliance with federal and state requirements, and communicates with state regulators, as needed, to facilitate the licensing of your product. As part of the service, TSG provides guidance on when to pursue licensing in anticipation of the launch of a new product into the marketplace. The typical cost of TSG’s State Registration Service to obtain registration of one product in all 50 states, including California, the District of Columbia and Puerto Rico is $2,800-$3,800.
If your product contains an active ingredient that is new (i.e. not previously registered) in California, Florida and New York, please contact TSG for an estimate of additional anticipated costs as the registration requirements are expanded for products containing new active ingredients in those states.
Direct Costs. In addition to the above TSG State Registration Services, costs associated with the copying of documents and shipping charges are estimated at $600-$1,200. Note that as part of our service, your company will receive a complete record of all documents submitted to each state for your pesticide compliance records.
State Fees. Application/registration fees are charged by each state. For companies that are new to some states, there are additional first time company fees. The state application fees currently total about $11,000.
TSG Invoicing. TSG will invoice your company for the State fees ($11,000) prior to the preparation and submission of the state applications. The applications will not be prepared or submitted until these fees are received. TSG State Registration Services and Direct Costs will be invoiced to your company as they accrue.
- Once your product is registered, TSG can also provide product maintenance services, including state registration renewal and label amendment state submissions.
- TSG also has extensive experience in “concurrent” antimicrobial, biochemical, microbial and new active ingredient applications in California, as well as the development and registration of minimum risk 25(b) exempt pesticides and pesticide devices in the various states.
Let TSG assist your company in obtaining the registrations necessary to allow you to sell your product. If you have questions specific to your product or want to discuss how TSG can assist you, please contact Oleta Melnicoe at (530)757-1243 or Artie Lawyer at (530)757-1298.
