EPA Adds 119 Fragrances to the Safer Chemical Ingredients List (July 2013)The U.S. EPA Design for Environment program (DfE) announced that, for the first time, EPA has added 119 fragrance chemicals used in commercial and consumer products to its Safer Chemical Ingredients List. The Safer Chemical Ingredients List serves as a resource for manufacturers and consumers committed to safer ingredients in chemical products. The Safer Chemical Ingredients List also serves as a guide for DfE-labeled products, which are subject to EPA’s rigorous scientific standards for human health and environmental effects. The List was created in 2012 and now contains 602 chemicals, 130 of which have been added in the month of July (2013).
Products containing the DfE label represent the DfE Standard for Safer Products. DfE labeling has been applied to a variety of products, including all-purpose cleaners and detergents, as well as window and vehicle cleaning products that have been certified by EPA to reduce harmful chemical exposure to people and the environment.
