U.S. Fertilizers

In the U.S., the sale and use of fertilizers, agricultural minerals or related products such as plant and soil amendments are regulated by state governments. While most states require the registration of these products, each state has their own set of regulations and fees. State regulations are focused on labeling, product efficacy, environmental protection, and the proper handling and application of fertilizers and amending materials. State programs and their standards have evolved quite independently, so there can be conflicts or varying interpretations between states on regulatory requirements for fertilizers and amending materials.

TSG helps companies navigate the regulatory maze of different state compliance programs. Our consultants are experienced in registering and renewing all types of fertilizers and amending materials in each state that requires registration. We are experienced in registering products under a single name and label in all states, facilitating quick and efficient national distribution of a product. We also have experience with regulations and regulatory evaluation requirements in all states.

TSG assists companies with the registration of products such as:

▲ Fertilizers or agricultural minerals with guaranteed nutrients;

▲ Specialty or bulk fertilizers identified by packaging or marketing;

▲ Soil and/or plant amendments or conditioners, or substances that have specific claims or characteristics; and

▲ Gypsum/liming materials.

Data requirements may include:

▲ Efficacy. Alternatively, use directions may need to match default assumptions;

▲ Heavy metals. The presence of heavy metals may prevent registration or trigger labeling requirements (i.e. warnings, etc.); and

▲ Label language and presentation format.
