FOOD AND FEED ADDITIVES

TSG scientists routinely assess the risks of trace substances in foods using appropriate food consumption databases such as the US Department of Agriculture Nationwide Food Consumption Survey. These risk assessments are undertaken for clients wishing to obtain FDA approval for direct and indirect food additives and for clients that require risk assessments for product stewardship reasons.

TSG scientists Drs. Gary Burin and Beth Mileson are Board Certified in Toxicology and are experienced with all aspects of risk assessment. Dr. Burin, a former member of the scientific staff at the World Health Organization, has served on numerous national and international expert panels and was recently awarded bronze medal by the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations for being an expert advisor to the Joint FAO/WHO Expert Committee on Food and Additives and Contaminants (see attached letter). Dr. Mileson was an participant in the 2002 International Life Sciences Institute project entitled “Food Safety in Europe (FOSIE): Risk Assessment of Chemicals in Food and Diet” and was a presenter at the Asia-Wide Symposium on Risk Assessment of Contaminants in Food, Seoul, South Korea, Korea Food and Drug Administration, November 1999.
